Kannada actress Ragini Dwivedi tried to “trick” CCB detectives by mixing water into her urine sample that she was asked to give as part of a drug test.
Ragini, the first leading lady arrested in the Sandalwood drug scandal on September 4, allegedly mixed water with urine and gave it to doctors at KC General Hospital in Malleswaram on Thursday. Doctors, however, were able to recognize the water in the sample and called it a bluff, said a CCB official who is part of the investigation.
A urine drug test can detect if someone has used narcotics in the past few days. Adding water to urine will lower the temperature of the urine, which is roughly equal to body temperature. Afterward, they made Ragini drink some more water and give him another urine sample. The CCB made sure that she did not mix water.
The officer described Ragini’s alleged behavior as “disgraceful and unfortunate” and said the incident was mentioned to the magistrate seeking an extension in police custody on Friday. The judge has given the police three more days to question her in custody.
Drug delivered home
The CCB believes that Ragini acquired drugs not only from his close friend BK Ravi Shankar, but also from a foreigner. It was an African named Simon who delivered MDMA pills to his home in Yelahanka.
The CCB says it has seen Ragini’s WhatsApp messages to Simon. It is said that she sent him a message: ‘please send me one more gram’ (sic). A senior CCB officer said they were looking after Simon.
‘Tantrums’ during the test
According to CCB, it wasn’t just Kannada actress Sanjjanaa Galrani who threw tantrums during the drug test. Ragini did too. She argued with police officers and refused to take the test without consulting her lawyer.
CCB sources said she feared she would be sent to jail if she took the test. She was exasperated that her life had already been “ruined.” Ragini insisted that the police send the warrant (about the drug test) to her lawyer. She agreed to take the test after speaking with her attorney. Researchers await the test result.
