Mumbai: In a shocking incident, Shiv Sena workers attacked a retired naval officer for allegedly sending a cartoon about Maharashtra’s chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Atul Bhatkhalkar said on Friday.
While making the sensational claim, Bhatkalkar said that between seven and eight Shiv Sena thugs (goondas) attacked a former naval officer named Madan Sharma.
Speaking exclusively to Times now, the Kandivali East Constituency BJP MLA, said a local ‘Shakha Pramukh’ from Sena called the former Navy officer and asked him to come down from his building. However, as soon as Sharma fell, around eight people beat him up for allegedly forwarding a Thackeray cartoon on WhatsApp.
He further claimed that Sharma’s eye was seriously injured in the attack.
“I want to tell the CM of Maharashtra, who is also the head of Sena, that the citizens of Maharashtra will not be afraid of ‘Goondaism’ and will not remain silent,” said the BJP MLA.
Meanwhile, talking to Times nowThe 66-year-old former Navy official’s daughter said her father received a message on WhatsApp that he later forwarded. From then on, she received many phone calls and was asked to come down. When my father came down from the building, they attacked him, he claimed.
The victim also spoke with Times now and claimed that he received a phone call and the person asked him to leave his residence to talk about a WhatsApp message that he had forwarded. “As soon as I got out, 10 to 12 people started beating me,” he said.
He also claimed that the police had come to his home to allegedly arrest him, but that he did not leave his home. The former Navy official said BJP MLA Atul Bhatkalkar and Rani Dwivedi helped him, otherwise he would have been in jail.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the government of Maha Vikas Aghadi, he demanded the rule of the president in the state.
The family of the Navy officer has filed a complaint against the accused at the Sant Nagar Police Station. The victim’s daughter accused Uddhav Thackeray of harboring ‘goondas’. She also claimed that the police wanted to arrest her father.
