Maharashtra Covid-19 count crosses the 10 lakh mark with a record 24,886 new cases in one day


Mumbai: Maharashtra’s overall Covid-19 count on Friday crossed the grim milestone of 10 lakh cases with a record 24,886 cases detected in the past 24 hours. The state had crossed the 9 lakh mark on September 6.

393 more deaths brought the state balance to 28,724.

The total number of cases in the state is 10,15,681, including 7,15,023 recoveries and 2,71,566 active cases, the state Department of Health said in a daily bulletin.

Mumbai reported 2,191 new cases on Friday, bringing the city’s overall count to 1,65,306.

With 44 more deaths reported, the death toll in Mumbai stands at 8,067. The number of active cases in Mumbai is 27,642 and 1,29,244 patients have been recovered.

The death rate in the state is 2.83% and the recovery rate is 70.4%.

Currently, 16,46,742 people are in home quarantine and 38,487 people are in institutional quarantine.

Of 50,72,521 laboratory samples, 10,15,681 have tested positive (20%) for Covid-19 to date.

After a 55-day gap, the Dharavi area dominated by Mumbai slums saw an increase of more than 30 coronavirus cases on Friday, said a senior official at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

With 33 new cases, the case count in the area rose to 2,883, while the number of active cases rose to 124 from 102 cases on September 10, it said.

By July 19, Dharavi, considered the largest slum in Asia, had registered 36 new cases. The daily increase in cases was reduced and remained in the range of 1 to 20.

Of a total of 2,883 Dharavi’s Covid-19 patients, 2,489 have already been discharged from hospitals.
