Rhea Chakraborty, her brother’s bail declaration rejected by the Mumbai special court

A special court in Mumbai today rejected the bail declaration of Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty.

They were arrested by the NCB in connection with a drug-related case related to the death of film star Sushant Singh Rajput.

Their bail requests were rejected by Judge GB Gurao in special court hearing cases filed under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

The court also rejected the bail statements of four other defendants in the case. They are Abdul Basit, Zaid Vilatra, Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda who have been rejected by a special court in Mumbai.

Special counsel Atul Sarpande had objected to his bail, saying that Rhea and Showik financed and arranged the drugs.

Rhea, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday after three days of questioning, is currently in judicial custody.

Rhea’s bail request says that no drugs or psychotropic substances have been seized from her and that the charges, if any, refer strictly to smaller amounts. She said there is nothing in the registry to suggest that she was involved in any way with the financing of illicit trafficking and / or sheltering criminals in relation to any drugs.

The NCB is investigating the drugs angle in this case under the criminal sections of the NDPS Act after the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) shared with it a report after the cloning of two Rhea mobile phones.

The NCB, ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are investigating various angles surrounding the Rajput’s death.

Rajput was found dead in his Bandra flat on June 14.

During the court hearing yesterday, the NCB had objected to the bail request submitted by the defendants. She had said that Showik Chakraborty is an active member of a drug syndicate related to drug supply.

While opposing Showik’s bail, NCB said if he is released on bail he could alter the evidence and will also try to win over the witness using his position (Rhea) in society and the power of money.

“The defendant Rhea Chakraborty has acknowledged her statements and her role explained. During the present statement, the defendant Rhea Chakraborty disclosed about her participation in the procurement of drugs and financial transactions and also her instructions to Samuel Miranda, Dipesh Sawant and the applicant Showik Chakraborty Therefore, it is clear from the statement that the plaintiff is an active member of a drug union related to the supply of drugs, “the NCB had said in its response to the defendant’s bail request.
