Bengaluru police have seized around 1,300 kg of marijuana worth almost 4 million rupees from a farm in Kalaburagi district amid an ongoing crackdown on drug networks across Karnataka.
The seizure comes days after Kannada actor Ragini Dwivedi was arrested in connection with a drug case, as well as in the midst of an ongoing drug investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said: “The Bengaluru City Police Central Division has done a very good job in carrying out an unprecedented seizure of 13 quintals of marijuana from the Gulbarga district “.
The Bengaluru police received a notice about the sale of drugs in the city and the information that the supply was shipped from Kamalanagar in the Kalaburagi district (also known as Gulbarga).

Two police officers were dispatched to the area posing as shoppers and then approached two suspects. The suspects, identified as Chandrakant Chavan and Nagnath, continued to postpone the meeting and changed locations about 11 times before finally agreeing to sell the shipment to them, police said.
Mr. Pant said: “When they went to that particular sheep farm after detailed questioning, they found a well covered with wooden boards that was again covered by dirt. When they removed it, they found a large shipment of marijuana kept there. They managed to secure these two people and bring this huge shipment to Bangalore. “

The commissioner said the drugs came from Odisha, via Telangana, crossing the border along with shipments of vegetables.
He said certificates of appreciation and Rs 2 lakh were given as a reward to the police team that recovered.
