Several low-lying areas in Bangalore were flooded after heavy rains hit the city on Thursday. Rainwater entered houses and submerged vehicles parked on the roads. India’s Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rains in parts of Karnataka. The meteorological office has forecast cloudy skies and rain or showers for the next three days in the capital of Karnataka.
“Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are likely to receive very heavy rains and a red alert has been sounded for September 11. The Karnataka coast is likely to receive widespread rains until September 13,” said CS Patil, director. from IMD, Bengaluru, adding that “the north and the interior of Karnataka will also probably receive quite heavy rains.
Maximum rains are expected in Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Bidar, Kalaburagi and Raichur districts, according to the meteorological office. An offshore channel running from the southern coast of Maharashtra to the northern coast of Kerala and a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea are causing heavy rains, meteorological experts said.
Heavy rain is also likely in northeast India for the next five days due to cyclonic circulation over the West Bengal Ganges and its neighborhood, IMD said. The mountainous districts of West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive heavy rains in the next five days.
Rains are very likely to increase in Odisha, the coast of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha region from September 12, the meteorological office warned.
