Will Rhea Chakraborty be released from jail? Mumbai court verdict tomorrow

The Mumbai special court will issue its decision on the bail statements filed by actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik on Friday. The court reserved its decision on the matter for tomorrow after hearing today’s allegations.

Rhea and Showik had approached the court under the NDPS (Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances) Act after the Magistrates Court rejected their requests for bail on Wednesday.

In her request for bail, Rhea had stated that she was innocent and was falsely implicated in the case. It further stated that Rhea “was compelled to make self-incriminating confessions and, by her September 8 request, the applicant has formally retracted all such incriminating confessions.”

Rhea was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday for her alleged involvement in a drug case linked to the death of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In the request for pre-trial detention, the OCN has stated that Rhea used to obtain medicines for Sushant and also used to “manage the finances for the purchase of medicines together with Rajput”.

The actress and her brother have been booked under Section 27 A of the NDPS Act, which establishes a punishment for financing illicit trafficking and sheltering offenders. If convicted, the two can face a prison term of not less than 10 years and can also be fined 2 lakh rupees.
