The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation posted a “work stoppage” notice on Tuesday at actress Kangana Ranaut’s office on Mumbai ‘s Pali Hill asking her to produce documents to prove the legality of the construction at the facility.
A team of BMC officers from the H West (Bandra) neighborhood visited Ranaut’s Pali Hill office Tuesday morning to deliver the notice. As the staff present refused to accept the copy, the civic staff posted it outside the office.
The notice, issued under section 354 (A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporations Act (MMC), orders the plaintiff to halt ongoing work at the facility and submit permits for the “illegal” construction. The BMC has given Ranaut 24 hours to present a response with documentary evidence.
“We have sent a notice to Ranaut to present documentary evidence and permits on illegal construction. If you do not submit a response within 24 hours, we will initiate the action to demolish illegal extensions and additions, ”said Vinayak Vispute, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for the H West (Bandra West) district.
According to the notice, the ongoing renovation and finishing work inside the bungalow was “beyond the approved plan.” Some of the illegal constructions mentioned in the notice include converting a ground floor bathroom into an office space, building a kitchen inside a warehouse and new bathrooms near a warehouse, converting a balcony into an area habitable, the fusion of a bungalow. with another, and expansion of the third floor.
Ranaut had bought the bungalow in 2017 and renovated it in January of this year.
The BMC is also verifying the change of use violation and whether the bungalow, a residential property, was converted to commercial. According to the 1979 plans, the bungalow is listed as residential property.
Ranaut has requested seven days to respond to the notice. In a response, his lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee said the actor will arrive in Mumbai on Wednesday and will need time to submit a detailed response to the notice. “My attorney @RizwanSiddiquee responded to @mybmc’s notice hoping they will stick with their plans to demolish the property,” Ranaut tweeted.
The BMC has also filed a response in the Dindoshi court to overturn an order suspending a demolition notice delivered to Ranaut for illegal construction of his home on Khar Road. In 2018, the BMC had issued a demolition notice to the plaintiff under the MR&TP Act for unauthorized construction exceeding the FSI. However, the Dindoshi court deferred notification after Ranaut challenged it. Officials said that once the ranch is vacated, they will begin the demolition.
