NEW DELHI: As Covid-19 infections surged to an unprecedented level in India over the weekend, the country moved to the center of the global pandemic scene, accounting for more than 40% of all cases recorded around the world on Sunday.
Cases in India on both Saturday and Sunday were higher than those in the United States and Brazil, the other two worst-affected countries combined.

India

  • Tamil Nadu: The death toll from Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu surpassed the 8,000 mark with 87 more deaths reported, while 5,684 new cases brought the tally to 4,74,940. The toll is now 8,012.
  • Bihar: Bihar reported up to 1,667 new cases of Covid-19. Active cases in the State amount to 17,787. Up to 1,133 deaths were reported over 24 hours.
