Mumbai:
Rhea Chakraborty, questioned today for the second day in a row over drug abuse allegations in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, made an emotional statement according to sources, telling the Office of Narcotics Control: “Everything I did, I did for Sushant. “.
Chakraborty, 28, accused of participating in the killing of Mr. Rajput, 34, on June 14, is being questioned after the OCN arrested her brother, Showik Chakraborty, and charged him under sections of the anti-narcotics law.
Ms. Chakraborty confronted her brother during today’s questioning, which began around 9:30 a.m. and lasted for several hours.
NCB sources said that the actor firmly denied all drug use charges. The source also said, however, that she was evasive on certain questions.
Chakraborty told NDTV in August that he had never used drugs, but tried to prevent the Rajput from using them. He has also repeatedly said that he expressed concern for his physical and mental health.
The Office of Narcotics Control claims to have evidence linking Showik Chakraborty and Samuel Miranda (the manager of Mr. Rajput’s home) to the purchase of marijuana.
The NCB has claimed that Dipesh Sawant (a Rajput domestic staff member) collected and delivered a total of 165 grams of marijuana between March and June, on the orders of Rhea and Showik Chakraborty. Sawant also told the NCB that he saw the Rajput smoking marijuana in September 2018.
However, no drugs have been recovered from Mr. Chakraborty so far, and the NCB case hinges on the seizure of 59 grams of cured marijuana from two suspected drug traffickers and their alleged links to Mr. Rajput.
The NCB registered interest in this case after WhatsApp conversations between Ms. Chakraborty and a contact believed to be Samuel Miranda about the drug purchase were alerted by the Directorate of Enforcement.
The ED is investigating allegations that Ms Chakraborty illegally transferred millions of rupees from Rajput bank accounts in Mumbai. So far no evidence of money laundering has been found.
Ms. Chakraborty, now under investigation by three central agencies, the NCB, ED and CBI, spoke to NDTV about the pressure she and her family were under.
He had previously shared video footage of his father, a retired army doctor, being harassed by journalists and asked, “How is this family going to live?”
She was also attacked by the Bihar police chief last month; In a shocking comment, the chief police officer said that Ms. Chakraborty did not have the aukat (stature) to comment on Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Ms. Chakraborty responded to the gender comment, telling NDTV in a live interview that “my aukat is that Sushant Singh Rajput, whom everyone claims to love, loved me. “
The actress, who has been repeatedly attacked online by trolls and harassed by reporters while appearing for questioning (disregarding social distancing during the Covid pandemic), has also previously targeted those who accused her of stealing Rajput property.
While being questioned by the Emergency Department last month, she posted a photograph of the late Bollywood star’s “only property” that she claimed to have: a bottle of water and a handwritten note.
