Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on the successful flight tests of the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) developed in the country.
He said that this technology is a historic achievement towards realizing PM’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-sufficient India).
the @DRDO_India today successfully flight tested the hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle using the scramjet propulsion system developed in the country. With this success, all critical technologies are now in place to advance to the next phase.

“The @DRDO_India today successfully flight tested the Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle using the locally developed scramjet propulsion system. With this success, all critical technologies are now in place to advance to the next phase, ”Singh said on Twitter.
“I congratulate DRDO for this historic achievement towards the realization of PM’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. I spoke with the scientists associated with the project and congratulated them on this great achievement. India is proud of them, ”he said in a subsequent tweet.
The HSTDV is an unmanned scramjet demonstration aircraft for hypersonic speed flight, it can navigate at a speed of mach 6 and move up to an altitude of 32.5 km (20 miles) in 20 seconds, according to the government.
In addition to its usefulness for the long-range cruise missiles of the future, the dual-use technology will also have multiple civil applications. It can also be used to launch satellites at low cost, said a government official quoted by the PTI news agency.
The HSTDV can move up to an altitude of 32.5 km in 20 seconds and once successfully achieved, India will join a select club of countries that have such technology.
The HSTDV cruise vehicle is mounted on a solid rocket motor, which will take you to the required altitude, and once it reaches certain mach numbers for speed, the cruise vehicle will be ejected from the launch vehicle. Afterwards, the scramjet engine will start automatically.
