Bharti Airtel has upgraded its Xstream Fiber broadband service with new plans starting as low as Rs. 499 per month and all offer “unlimited” high-speed Internet access. The telecommunications company has also announced an Airtel Xstream package under which it will provide the Xstream Android 4K TV Box with all its Xstream Fiber plans, along with free access to a list of OTT applications. The new changes come just a week after Airtel’s archrival Reliance Jio renewed plans for Jio Fiber’s broadband service.
According to the latest review, Airtel has started offering its Xstream Fiber broadband service through five different monthly plans. The telecommunications company has the Rs. 499 as the lowest in the series, with speeds of up to 40 Mbps. There are also Rs. 799, Rs. 999, Rs. 1,499 and Rs. 3,999 plans with speeds of up to 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, 300 Mbps, and 1 Gbps, respectively. All new plans are claimed to offer unlimited high-speed data allowance.
However, Airtel has mentioned on its terms and conditions page that there is still a Fair Use Policy (FUP) with a publishing limit of 3333 GB, which will reduce speeds to 1,024 Kbps.
The new Airtel Xstream Fiber broadband plans also offer unlimited voice calling benefits for customers using a landline with their connection. Plans also include access to Airtel Xstream, which is touted to offer more than 10,000 original OTT movies, shows and series from apps and OTT studios. Furthermore, the Rs. 999, Rs. 1,499 and Rs. Airtel’s 3,999 broadband plans are also included in Amazon Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar and Zee5 services.
In addition to the new plans, Airtel has announced the Xstream Bundle offer under which it is providing the Xstream Android 4K TV Box to its broadband users with a security deposit of Rs. 1,500, along with free access to Amazon Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar, and Zee5. Airtel also offered the TV Box with an identical security deposit for its broadband customers previously. However, the supplementary access part looks new.
Before the latest update, Airtel was offering its Xstream Fiber broadband service with an initial monthly plan of Rs. 799 (without taxes). However, the new update appears to be a move by the telco to stay active in the race against Reliance Jio, which recently updated its Jio Fiber broadband portfolio with new plans starting from Rs. 399 per month. The Mumbai-based telecom operator also offered an “unconditional 30-day free trial” to all its new customers and provided a trial of its new plans to its existing subscribers.
Airtel has included the new broadband plans on its website, as well as in the Airtel Thanks app. Existing Xstream Fiber broadband service customers have upgraded to the unlimited Internet offering. However, the operator has yet to provide its existing subscribers with a way to switch to the new plans.
Gadgets 360 has approached Airtel for clarity on how existing broadband customers would have the ability to switch to the new plans. An answer is expected.
