CALCUTTA: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly sexually abused in a car by a friend and then pushed out of the vehicle on Saturday night in Kolkata.
According to the PTI, the accused did not stop here and ran over another woman who, together with her husband, tried to stop the car after hearing the first woman’s screams.
The incident occurred in the Anandapur area in the eastern part of Kolkata on Saturday night. The woman went for a walk with a friend who allegedly abused her in the moving car. The ‘friend’ abused her after she insisted on going home and kept driving the vehicle aimlessly, a police officer said.
She started screaming and a couple upon hearing that tried to stop the vehicle, she said.
The couple was leaving a housing complex in the area when they heard the screams. While trying to stop the car, the woman was pushed out of the vehicle at high speed, the officer said. The car then hit another woman, identified as Nilanjana Chatterjee, who along with her husband tried to stop the vehicle.
“Initially we did not receive help from the police when I dialed the emergency number. The ambulances were not willing to come either due to the COVID situation. However, on the second attempt, the Anandapur police station arranged an ambulance, which was taken to the place by a traffic sergeant, “alleged the woman’s husband, who was run over by the car.
He said that although he wanted to file a separate FIR with charges of attempted murder, the police told him that it would be included in the case brought in relation to sexual abuse.
Police said a case has been filed that incorporates all the charges.
Chatterjee has been admitted to a nearby private hospital with broken legs. The allegedly abused woman was rescued and sent home. She told police that she had befriended the defendant a few days ago.
