New Delhi:
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the opening session of the Governors Conference on National Education Policy on Monday via video conference, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The conference entitled “Role of NEP-2020 in the transformation of higher education” is being organized by the Ministry of Education.
The Governors Conference is also attended by ministers of education from all states, presidents of state universities, and other senior officials.
The statement noted that NEP-2020 is the first 21st century education policy to be announced after 34 years of the previous National Education Policy in 1986.
NEP-2020 is aimed at major reforms in both school and higher education.
“The new National Education Policy strives to make India an equitable and vibrant knowledge society. It envisions an Indian-centric education system that directly contributes to transforming India into a global superpower,” he said.
He added that the comprehensive transformation sought by the NEP will cause a paradigm shift in the country’s education system and create an enabling and revitalized educational ecosystem for a new “Atmanirbhar Bharat” as envisioned by the prime minister.
Various webinars, virtual conferences and conclaves are being organized across the country on a number of aspects of the National Education Policy 2020.
The Ministry of Education and the University Scholarship Commission had previously organized a “Conclave on Transformative Reforms in Higher Education in the Framework of the National Education Policy-2020”, which was addressed by PM Modi.
