In a shocking incident, a girl who tested positive for coronavirus was sexually abused by an ambulance driver in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district. The 20-year-old girl was abused while being taken to the COVID_19 frontline care facility in Panthalam. Police arrested the driver of ambulance 108 Noufal, 29, a native of Kayamkulam in connection with the incident that occurred early Sunday morning, regional media reported.
There were reportedly two patients in the ambulance and one of them was deposited at the Kozhencherry Government District Hospital, as instructed by the health authorities. The driver took the second woman to the frontline treatment center and when the vehicle reached the deserted area, the defendant sexually abused her.
The girl reported the incident after arriving at the treatment center and filed a complaint with the police. The police took a statement from the victim and arrested the accused. The girl has been housed in a special room in the center while Noufal is in quarantine at the police station. The victim’s medical examination will take place today.
Noufal, is accused in a murder case and his criminal record is being investigated, regional media report citing police sources.
Typically, healthcare workers accompany COVID_19 patients as they are taken to front-line hospitals or treatment centers. But the two women were sent with the ambulance driver overnight.
