Andhra Pradesh maintained its first position in the 2019 Ease of Doing Business ranking, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry published on Saturday the Ranking of the State Business Reform Action Plan.
Uttar Pradesh of northern India, Andhra Pradesh of southern India, West Bengal of eastern India, Madhya Pradesh of western India, and Assam of northeast India topped the rankings. Among the Union Territories, Delhi took first place.
The Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, and the Minister of Cabinet, Hardeep Singh Puri, were present at the event.
This classification is based on the implementation of the business reform action plan, Piyush Goyal said.
“The Government of India has been making efforts to simplify business regulation through a one-stop-shop system, labor law reforms, Conflict Law reforms, etc. to do fast and cheap business, “he said.
“Covid-19 has impacted all countries, but the nation will emerge stronger due to Prime Minister Modi’s call for a self-sufficient India. The nation will be able to play a more assertive role on the global stage ”, he added.
“India’s strong commitment to reforms is evident in its steady rise from 142nd in 2014 to 63rd in 2019 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking,” Goyal said.
“If a state is ranked high, it doesn’t mean it is superior to others in any way. The efforts of all states count ”, added the minister.
The results were scheduled to be announced in March, but had to be delayed due to the coronavirus crisis.
