September 5, 1888 was the day of the birth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, First Vice President and Second President of India. Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the anniversary of his birth.

History of Teacher’s Day
Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a respected academic before he entered politics. He was a professor at many universities and even represented the University of Calcutta at the Congress of the Universities of the British Empire and the International Congress of Philosophy at Harvard University.
He was headmaster of Harris Manchester College, Oxford and lectured Oxford University students on comparative religion.
The story goes that after he became president of India, some old students and friends asked him to allow them to celebrate his birthday to which he replied: “Instead of celebrating my birthday, I would be proud if September 5 was observe as teachers. ‘Day “.
Since then, his birthday has been celebrated as Teacher’s Day in India.
