Two dhabas in Haryana’s Murthal were sealed on Thursday after their 75 workers tested positive for Covid-19, a senior official said.
According to Sonipat Deputy Commissioner Shyam Lal Poonia, the majority of 65 workers tested positive at the Amrik-Sukhdev dhaba. Ten workers belonged to the other dhaba, he told PTI by phone.
Both dhabas are located in Murthal de Sonipat and almost 50 km from Delhi.
The DC said both dhabas have been sealed until new warrants are filed and efforts are underway to trace as many contacts as possible from positive cases. The DC said the district administration ordered the restaurants to be sanitized.
Murthal is famous for its restaurants and is often crowded with people traveling on the Delhi-Ambala national highway. Many people from Delhi also visit Murthal as a getaway destination, as the place has many famous dhabas.
The DC said that the Sonipat district administration has been conducting a special campaign for the sampling of workers in the Dhabas and it was during this process that these cases were detected. In view of the coronavirus pandemic, he said that the district administration continues to carry out routine checks in Dhabas to ensure they are following all rules and guidelines, including those related to social distancing. Haryana on Thursday reported its highest peak in a single day of 1,881 coronavirus cases with 19 deaths.
The Sonipat district reported 190 cases of coronavirus, according to a bulletin from the state Department of Health.
According to the bulletin, Sonipat, which has so far reported 4,747 cases with 41 deaths, is the third worst affected district after Faridabad and Gurgaon.
