He will head to Moscow for a meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers on September 9. At both meetings, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will also be present.

“I am not underestimating the seriousness of the current situation or the real challenges of the boundary issue. It is vital that both countries reach and achieve, not just for them. I think one has a lot to ride. I am also aware that right now we have a situation in the border areas of the western sector. We have agreements and understandings with China … agreements and understandings must be scrupulously observed by both parties, neither party should attempt to change the status quo unilaterally. And the reality is that what happens at the border will impact the relationship, it cannot be separated, “he said.

“I am not underestimating the challenges, I am being very realistic, I understand. I am in contact with the situation on the ground on a regular basis… But I am convinced that the way out is through diplomacy, ”he said.

“And that will happen if both parties understand that it is in their own interest that they do not see what they have seen this summer,” he said.

In Moscow, Rajnath Singh met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and expressed appreciation for the “strong support” provided by Russia “in line with India’s defense and security needs.”

He noted the “timely manner in which the Russians had responded to requests for the acquisition of particular weapons systems,” Singh’s office tweeted.
