Mumbai:
A team from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrived at the Mumbai home of actor Rhea Chakraborty this morning to conduct searches, days after the investigative agency began investigating the angle of drugs in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The NCB has established links between Rhea Chakraborty’s brother, Showik, and suspected drug dealer Zaid Vilatra, who has been arrested.
Another OCN team conducted searches at the home of Mr. Rajput’s aide, Samuel Miranda. Agency sources had previously said that Vilatra, 20, allegedly supplied cannabis to Showik Chakraborty and Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda, who were introduced to each by another middleman, 23-year-old Abdel Basit Parihar.
In an interview with NDTV, actress Rhea Chakraborty said last week that she “has never used drugs in her life” and claimed that she tried to prevent Sushant Singh Rajput from using marijuana.
Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14.
Rhea Chakraborty, 28, her family and others are being investigated by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), the Enforcement Directorate and the NCB over allegations by Rajput’s family that she mentally harassed the actor and had a role in his death.
Two psychiatrists who treated Sushant Singh Rajput in his final months separately diagnosed the actor with severe depression, anxiety, existential crisis and bipolar disorder, according to statements recorded by the Mumbai Police. Both revealed that the actor had stopped taking his medications, which aggravated his condition and made his treatment very difficult.
Yesterday, the CBI called the media reports attributed to it about its investigation into the actor’s death as “speculative and not based on facts,” in the agency’s first official statement. “The CBI spokesperson or any member of the team has not shared any details of the investigation with the media. The details that are reported and attributed to CBI are not credible,” he said.
