New Delhi, September 3
India on Thursday criticized Pakistan for its “blatant attempt to politicize” the operation of the Al Qaeda 1267 Sanctions Committee after the UN Security Council blocked Islamabad’s decision to include four Indian nationals on the sanctions list. .
Pakistan had submitted the names of Angara Appaji, Gobinda Patnaik, Ajoy Mistry and Venumadhav Dongara for appointment to the UN Security Council’s 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee.
However, Pakistan’s attempt was thwarted when the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Belgium blocked the move in the Council.
The sources noted that a request from Pakistan containing the names of Mistry and Dongara had been blocked in early June / July and another attempt with the remaining two people was blocked on Wednesday.
When asked about the issue in an online briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said there was a proposal from Pakistan to add two Indians to this list of 1,267 ISIS and Al Qaeda sanctions.
“Some members of the Council were against it and subsequently the secretariat blocked this proposal from Pakistan and issued a notification. So what has happened with this is that Pakistan’s attempt to put the four Indian nationals on this 1267 sanctions list has failed, “he said.
He said the Indian mission thanked the Council for blocking “this blatant attempt by Pakistan to politicize the operation of this 1267 procedure by giving it a religious color.” PTI
