Indian markets fluctuated between small gains and losses on Thursday, as gains in IT and pharmaceutical stocks offset weakness in private banks.
The S&P BSE Sensex was trading flat at around 39,100 levels. The index has reached intraday highs and lows of 39,236 and 38,943, respectively. The Nifty50 index hovered around 11,550 zones. Titan (up 4%) was the top winner from Sensex, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro and Bajaj Auto (all up 1%). On the other hand, Bajaj Finance and ICICI Bank each fell 1 percent.
Among other individual actions, aviation stocks soared after the central government allowed Indian airlines to increase the number of passenger flights to 60 percent of their pre-Covid capacity. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea rose as much as 25 percent ahead of tomorrow’s meeting to consider fundraising.
The trend among the Nifty sector indices was mixed, with the Nifty Auto index, which rose 1%, topping the list of winners.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices were trading half a percent higher each.
