NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of the Interior (MHA) issued an alert and called on security forces to remain vigilant amid rising tension between India and China on the Line of Royal Control (LAC).
Sources on Wednesday (September 2, 2020) said that the Interior Ministry ordered the security forces to remain on high alert on the India-China, India-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders.
Interior Ministry sources said that the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have been asked to increase patrolling and surveillance on the borders contiguous to China.
The ITBP has been ordered to remain vigilant on the borders of Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Sikkim. In addition to this, the SSB and ITBP have been instructed to increase vigilance over the TRI-Junction India-Nepal-China and the Kalapani region in Uttarakhand.
Some SSB companies have quickly moved to the India-Nepal border. Previously, these companies were engaged in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi. The decision on the matter was made during a high-level review meeting attended Tuesday by the Interior Ministry, the Secretary for Border Management, and ITBP and SSB officials.
According to the sources, after the crucial meeting, instructions were issued to increase surveillance on India’s borders with China, Nepal and Bhutan. Indian security forces have been asked not to move from above as they are within the country’s perception of the Royal Line of Control (LAC).
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was blockaded by Indian forces after the Chinese attempted to maneuver various heights near the southern shore of Pangong Tso, Rezang La, Requin La, and Spanggur Gap on August 29-30.
The armed forces guarding India’s borders have reportedly been asked to remain on high alert amid rising tensions along the Royal Line of Control.
Following a failed attempt by the Chinese to change the status quo, the Indian military has strengthened its presence at a series of “strategic heights” and enhanced the deployment of troops and weapons at key points around Lake Pangong in eastern Ladakh.
On Tuesday again, China engaged in “provocative action” even as military talks were ongoing.
Events show that New Delhi is willing to change the rules of engagement along the border with China, with the Indian army rejecting Chinese troops seeking to open a new front along LAC in Ladakh, in addition to strengthening their positions along strategic heights in the area. .
Meanwhile, military talks between India and China resumed on Wednesday. Talks at the Brigade Commander level are taking place in Chushul / Moldo to discuss the current problems along the southern shore of Pangong Tso Lake.
Military talks are being held to ease the growing tension caused by a new clash between the two sides on the southern shore of Lake Pangong. The sources said the meeting on Monday and Tuesday did not produce any concrete results.
