What happened to my aunt’s family in Punjab is beyond horrible, I need answers: Suresh Raina: The Tribune India

New Delhi, September 1

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, who withdrew from the IPL for personal reasons, demanded on Tuesday a thorough investigation into the violent attack on his aunt’s family in Punjab, revealing that after his uncle, his cousin also died.

The 33-year-old returned to the country last week after leaving the IPL, which begins on September 19.

In her Twitter statement, Raina, however, did not say that the attack, allegedly a robbery case in Pathankot, was the reason she returned.

“What happened to my family is (sic) Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was killed to death, my bua and my two cousins were seriously injured. Unfortunately, my cousin also passed away last night after fighting for life for days. My bua (aunt) is still very critical and is alive, “he said.

Raina’s relatives were attacked on the night of August 19 and 20 in the village of Thariyal in the Pathankot district of Punjab.

“To date, we do not know what exactly happened that night and who did this. I ask @PunjabPoliceInd to investigate this matter. At least we deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not skimp on committing more crimes. @Capt_amarinder @CMOPb, “he added, pointing to Punjab captain Amarinder Singh.

Raina retired from international cricket on August 15, along with former India captain and close friend Mahendra Singh Dhoni. PTI
