Delhi reports biggest 1-day spike in coronavirus cases in nearly 2 months

Coronavirus Cases in Delhi: Delhi has so far reported more than 1.77 lakh of COVID-19 cases

New Delhi:

The national capital today reported its highest peak in a single day in cases of coronavirus in almost two months. Government data shows that Delhi reported 2,312 new coronavirus cases and 18 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to more than 1.77 lakh. The city has reported 4,462 deaths. The recovery rate is 88.5%. The last largest increase in a day was 2,505 cases on July 4, and the cases had been declining slowly until today.

The city has been opened in phases and following the Unlock4 guidelines of the center to return life to normal in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, the national capital no longer looks deserted, as was the case in the months after the announcement of the closing at the end of March.

Delhi’s latest round of the monthly seroprevalence survey began on Tuesday, covering all 272 municipal districts to analyze the COVID-19 situation at a micro level, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said. The sample size this time will be 17,000 and the exercise will run for a week, he told reporters.

The latest seroprevalence survey was conducted August 1-7, and it showed that 29.1 percent of people surveyed had “antibodies” against coronavirus infection.

“This time we will do it by district, so the 272 municipal districts of Delhi will be covered, plus two meeting areas. The sampling will take place for a week. After that, the results should arrive in 7-10 days,” he said. Mr. Jain said.

The above surveys were conducted by district.

Some experts have said that the growing number of new cases could be due to a growing number of tests and as a result of the easing of movement restrictions. The Delhi Metro will start operating from September 7.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is likely to issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Wednesday to keep the metro network operating safely amid the coronavirus crisis.

“We heard suggestions from the general directors of the metro, which will be considered. A draft of the SOPs has been prepared and will be discussed with the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday. In consultation with the Ministry of the Interior, the SOPs will be finalized,” said the secretary of the Durga Ministry. Shanker Mishra said, according to PTI.
