New Delhi: The main Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) begins today (September 1) after being postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is prepared to take the exam amid the COVID-19 guidelines.
The NTA has taken various measures to take into account and has also increased the number of exam centers from 570 to 660. Around 8.58 lakh of students have registered for the main JEE exams this year.
The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhiyal ‘Nishank’ has called on the top ministers of various states to support the students taking the exam.
This year’s test will be computer-based and there will be a gap of at least one computer between each student. The Main 2020 Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) shifts will be held in two shifts per day for a total of 12 shifts in six days. The first shift will be from 9 to 12 hours and the second will be from 15 to 18 hours.
Students were seen using public transportation services to get to the test center on Tuesday morning.
The Madhya Pradesh government will organize free transportation for candidates taking the JEE and NEET exams, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Sunday.
The Odisha government has also decided to provide free transportation and accommodation to applicants for joint entrance exams (JEE) and national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET) in the state, said Asit Tripathy, chief secretary of state.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has also instructed all district collectors to arrange for the transportation of JEE and NEET exam candidates to their exam centers and back.
The NTA is conducting the JEE Main 2020 for admission to undergraduate programs at NIT, IIIT and other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTI), etc. for the next academic year (2020-2021) in two phases.
