BTS made history once again today at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards by winning the Best Pop award, the first Asian act to do so. The South Korean septet won the award for their February release “ON,” a powerful anthem of self-empowerment and hope, from their fourth studio album. Soul Map: 7.
Comprised of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, BTS was nominated for VMAs for Best Pop, Best K-pop, Best Group, and Best Choreography this year and took home all four awards.
The group also took the stage at the VMAs to perform their new single “Dynamite” live for the first time, dancing through the streets of New York City thanks to a massive virtual installation filmed in Seoul. Dressed in elegant 1970s-style costumes, the septet showcased their smooth choreography and powerful stage presence. “Dynamite” is the group’s first English track.
BTS broke numerous records with the release of “Dynamite” on August 21; the official music video became YouTube’s largest live premiere in the website’s history, amassing 3 million concurrent viewers. The video also holds the record for the most views for a music video in 24 hours with 101.1 million views. “Dynamite” precedes the release of the group’s next untitled album, set to be released sometime in the last quarter of 2020. Locally, the track also broke a one-week record for most streams by a song on Spotify. India with more than 2.4 million streams. .
