Coronavirus Cases in India: India has tested more than 4.23 million samples so far.

India reported 78,512 new coronavirus infections on Monday, down slightly from the day before when it recorded the highest single-day infection count of any country in the pandemic. With the record rebound, the total number of cases in the country now stands at 36,21,245, according to data released this morning by the Union Ministry of Health. An additional 971 new deaths brought the total death count to 64,469, it said. 27.74,802 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, raising the recovery rate to 76.62%. There are currently 7.81,975 active cases of coronavirus in the country, representing 21.59 percent of the total number of cases, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health.

On Sunday, India reported 78,761 new cases, the highest increase since the country’s first case was reported in January, to bring the Covid count to more than 35 lakh. The country has registered more than 75,000 cases during the last four days.

India took 214 days to cross 36 lakh of cases. The country has registered more than five lakhs of cases in the last week. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh have reported the highest number of new cases.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, reported 16,408 new cases and 296 deaths from COVID-19 on Sunday. Nagpur, the state’s winter capital, reported 40 deaths, while the state capital witnessed 30 deaths related to the virus. Pune reported 25 deaths.

Andhra Pradesh became the second most affected state by the coronavirus in India, as it overtook Tamil Nadu, recording more than 4.24 lakh of coronavirus cases. The state reported more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases for the fifth day in a row on Sunday, bringing the total count to 4,24,767, behind only Maharashtra.

Tamil Nadu has extended its coronavirus lockdown until September 30, but has also announced major relaxations, including the resumption of in-state bus services from September 1 and Chennai metro services from September 7. September. The southern state has more than 4.16 lakh of confirmed cases. Of these, more than 7,100 are virus-related deaths and around 1.85 lakh are active cases.

The government announced on Saturday the guidelines for the fourth phase of unblocking, which allows metro services to resume from September 7. No closures can be imposed outside of containment zones, states have been told.

The recovery rate has increased to 76.62 percent, while the death rate has decreased to 1.78 percent, the ministry said. The last five lakh of recoveries have been recorded in just eight days compared to the same number of previous recoveries, which were recorded in 10 and nine days respectively.
