Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank asked Goa’s Chief Minister PramodSawant to make elaborate security arrangements to take NEET and JEE engineering and medical entrance exams in the coastal state. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank asked Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to make elaborate security arrangements to take the NEET and JEE engineering and medical entrance exams in the coastal state.
The state has established 17 centers where 6,939 students will sit for these exams, the minister said in a tweet on Sunday. The opposition Congress in the state has demanded that
NEET and JEE exams will be postponed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I had an extensive discussion with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant about holding the prestigious NEET-JEE exams in the state, Nishank tweeted.
“The state has established 17 centers for 6,939 students who would take these exams. I have requested CM to have elaborate security arrangements and facilities at these centers,” he said in another tweet.
Three leaders of the Congress-affiliated National Student Union of India (NSUI) were detained on Saturday after they sat on a hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Panaji, demanding that the JEE and NEET exams be postponed. On Friday, ministers from six states not governed by the BJP moved the Supreme Court against its August 17 order allowing examinations.
The high court had refused to interfere with the taking of medical and engineering entrance exams, saying that life must go on and that students cannot lose a precious year due to the pandemic.
