NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra modi on Sunday he urged startups and entrepreneurs to develop “innovative toys and games, for India and India” to meet domestic demand and increase their share of the global toy business, estimated at Rs 7 lakh crore. He also asked people to support locally developed applications that could replace those currently in vogue and controlled by foreign companies.

Speaking of apps, Modi appreciated those from Made in India like Koo, StepSetGo, Zoho, Chingari, Kutuki, FTC talent, etc. The ‘Aatmanirbhar Application Innovation Challenge’ selected the best applications from around 7,000 entries across India. These were from different categories like games, entertainment, business, public services, social media and fitness and have been built by Indian youth from different parts of the country, he said.
“Friends, be it virtual games, be it the toy industry in India’s independent campaign, everyone has a very important role to play, and therein lies an opportunity too. One hundred years ago, when the non-cooperation movement began, Gandhiji had written that the non-cooperation movement is an effort to make fellow countrymen realize their self-love and power, ”he said.
Giving a push to Atmanirbhar BharatModi said the seed was sown in the form of the non-cooperation movement, and now it was everyone’s responsibility to transform it into a self-sustaining Indian banyan tree. Modi had recently chaired a meeting aimed at boosting India’s participation in the global toy trade in which China is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters.
“We can do two things through toys, bring back the glorious past of our lives and also fix our golden future. To my startup friends, to our new entrepreneurs, I say, team up for toys. For everyone, it’s time to make their voices heard for local toys, ”he said.
Noting that computer games have become more popular in the era of computers and smartphones, the prime minister said that most of the topics were from foreign countries. “It’s time to make games in India and in India. Let’s play games, ”he said. Modi said that the toys not only increase activity, but also give flight to aspirations and build the mind and also foster intention, he said.
“Earlier this month, the country’s youth received an application innovation challenge. Our young people wholeheartedly participated in the Atmanirbhar Bharat Application Innovation Challenge. About 7,000 entries were received that included almost two-thirds of applications created by youth from Tier 2 and 3 cities, ”Modi said.
He added that the small start-ups of today will transform into big companies tomorrow and become the brand of India in the world.
