Andhra overtakes Tamil Nadu to become second worst affected by coronavirus

Andhra Pradesh became the second most affected state by the coronavirus in India, as it overtook Tamil Nadu, recording more than 4.24 lakh of coronavirus cases.

The state reported more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases for the fifth day in a row today, bringing the total count to 4,24,767, behind only Maharashtra.

Tamil Nadu has reported more than 4.16 lakh of COVID-19 cases so far.

A total of 36,66,422 tests have been conducted in Andhra Pradesh, while the positivity rate is 11.59%, the third highest in the country after Maharashtra and Karnataka. Tamil Nadu’s positivity rate is 8.93 percent.

Andhra Pradesh has one of the highest COVID-19 testing rates in India, conducting around 68,660 tests per million.

Andhra Pradesh’s latest government bulletin said 9,067 patients were cured and discharged from hospitals across the state, while 88 more died due to the pandemic, according to the PTI news agency. Approximately 3,21,754 people have recovered from the disease in the state so far.

The number of active cases in the state is now below the one lakh mark, at 99,129 on Sunday.

East Godavari and SPS Nellore continued to report more than 1,000 cases, while West Godavari, Kadapa, and Chittoor added more than 900 each in 24 hours, according to PTI.

India reported 78,761 new coronavirus cases in the previous 24 hours, the largest single-day increase in infections in the world, according to government data released this morning, bringing the total number of cases in the country to more than 35. lakh.
