Chandigarh recorded seven new coronavirus deaths on Sunday, a medical bulletin showed, a new death record for the union territory that saw a significant increase in cases in August.
One of the eight deaths took place on Friday. The rest died on Saturday.
A nine-year-old girl from Hallomajra with hepatic SOL (lesions to the liver) was among those who died, the UT medical bulletin said on Sunday. The boy died of cardiac respiratory arrest at the Sector 32 Government Hospital and Faculty of Medicine on Saturday, according to the bulletin.
Only two of the eight who died were over 65: a 65-year-old man from Sector 43 who died at Max Hospital in Mohali, and an 81-year-old woman from Sector 20 who died at Fortis de Mohali on Saturday.
Two were in their early 40s. A 43-year-old woman from Faidan with interstitial lung disease, scleroderma with tuberculous meningitis and type 2 diabetes died at GMCH-32 on Saturday. A 45-year-old man from Manimajra who was diabetic died of cardiopulmonary arrest on Saturday at the Government Multiple Specialties Hospital of Sector 16.
The latest victim was a 52-year-old woman from Sector 30 who had adrenal carcinoma, a cancerous tumor in her adrenal cortex. She died on GMCH-32 on Friday.
In addition, the UT administration added a death that had taken place earlier this month to his account. A 20-year-old man from Raipur Kalan was taken dead to Panchkula Civil Hospital on August 22 and later transferred to GMCH-32, where his tests came back positive. No further details are available for this person yet.
UT’s death toll is now 52.
Chandigarh also recorded 170 new COVID-19 cases, bringing UT’s COVID-19 count to 4,155.
Chandigarh’s COVID-19 cases rose more than 300 percent in August, when the UT added 3,140 cases to its total infection count.
About 44 percent (1,805 infections) of UT cases are still active.
The development also came on a day when Mohali reported 240 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths to its account, and Panchkula added 77 new infections. This brings Tricity’s single day count to 487.
