Chennaiyin FC have announced the appointment of former Uganda and Lithuania coach Csaba Laszlo as their head coach for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season.

The Hungarian coach will replace Owen Coyle, who had led the team to the ISL final last season before joining Jamshedpur FC.

The 56-year-old has coached several Hungarian teams, including Ferencvaros, and has also coached the national teams of Uganda and Lithuania. He has also been in charge of the Hearts of Scotland (2008-10) and Dundee United in the 2017-18 season where he managed to take them to third place in the Scottish Championship.

He was the last in charge of the Romanian team Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe.

Interestingly, Laszlo was also part of the Hungarian national team created in 2004 when he was appointed assistant coach of German legend Lothar Mathaus. It should be noted that Laszlo had a successful moment as Ugandan coach between 2006 and 2008.

Under his leadership, Uganda jumped from 181 to 91 in the FIFA rankings and even beat rivals Nigeria and Angola for the first time in their history.

The Hungarian coach hopes to replicate the success the club had with Coyle last season. The club has retained players like Rafael Crivellaro and Eli Sabia from last season, in addition to key Indian players like Edwin Vanspaul, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Anirudh Thapa, Vishal Kaith, etc.
