NEW DELHI: The BCCI revealed on Saturday that two players are among a total of 13 who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the IPL after it came to light that more than a dozen members of the Chennai Super Kings contingent have been infected by the dreaded virus in Dubai.
The two players who tested positive include a specialist T20 cue ball closer from India and a top class hitter from India A. The Board did not release any names. The tournament will begin on September 19 and will be played in three cities in the United Arab Emirates.
“Thirteen staff members have tested positive, of which 2 are players. All affected staff, as well as their close contacts, are asymptomatic and have been isolated from other team members. They are being monitored by the IPL Medical Team,” he said. the BCCI press release.

The statement indicated that a total of 1,988 COVID-19 RT-PCR tests were carried out between August 20 and August 28 in all participating groups in the UAE.
These include players, support staff, team management, BCCI staff, IPL operational team, hotel and ground transportation staff.
“In accordance with the IPL 2020 health and safety protocols, testing on all participants will be conducted regularly during the IPL 2020 season,” he added.
All positive cases must go through a 14-day quarantine period, after which they must return two negative RT-PCR tests before being allowed to enter the biobubble for the tournament.
