Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a big announcement on Saturday, ruling out Suresh Raina from the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The CSK vice captain had arrived in the UAE with the rest of his Indian teammates and support staff a week ago, but is now heading home to India for personal reasons.
CSK took to Twitter to announce the big news, quoting CEO KS Viswanathan as saying: “Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will not be available for the remainder of the IPL season. Chennai Super Kings offers full support to Suresh and his family during this time.”
Raina had become the center of attention for cricket fans in India along with CSK captain MS Dhoni after the two announced a joint decision to end their respective international careers on August 15. Nicknamed Chinna Thala by her CSK fans, Raina is also known as’ Sir. IPL ‘in the T20 league having established her credentials as one of the best players in the tournament.
The last few days have not been the best for the Super Kings. More than 10 members of the franchise tested positive for the new coronavirus in the latest round of posts in which they were supposed to start the training session in the UAE. With the Deepak Chahar pacemaker as one of the infected, all CSK players and staff received an extended period of quarantine.
In the midst of such chaos in the franchise, the news that Raina is returning to India for personal reasons is truly shocking to both her peers and fans.
