CHENNAI / NEW DELHI: Super Kings of Chennai player Deepak Chahar, who has tested positive for Covid-19, you can return to training only after a 14-day quarantine period, after which you will have to test negative twice, 24 hours apart, before you are allowed to re-enter to the biosecurity zone.
The Indian Cricket board (BCCI) insisted there was no immediate threat to the IPL, which is scheduled to begin on September 19.
“Appropriate measures have been taken to address the situation and there is no immediate threat to the tournament. But the announcement of the accessories has been delayed due to this development, ”a leading BCCI source told TOI.
CSK They were the only team to camp in India before leaving for Dubai. It is understood that the BCCI had expressed concern about the camp, and some officials even contacted the CSK leadership and asked them to cancel it.
“Senior BCCI officials had warned the CSK leadership about the risks of holding such a camp in India,” a BCCI source said.
However, these concerns were not addressed. CSK management was of the view that the team should get a good hit in the park before leaving for the United Arab Emirates, as their initial plan to reach Dubai on 12 August had already been denied.
CSK sources continue to insist that “an asymptomatic carrier is enough and this (situation) could have happened to any team.” They feel that they had all tested negative in India and that exposure to each other during the flights or at the two airports in Chennai and Dubai could also have led to contingent members contracting the virus.
“There are many players who were coming off a long layoff. The likes of MS Dhoni, Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina he had played very little cricket even before the lockdown in March. That is why CSK insisted on having the camp, to have a few more days under its belt, ”said a source.
However, the positive tests have left the CSK field in disarray. The team has a large number of players over 30 and most of them have been out of international cricket for a while.
“It is difficult but the whole team is on the same page. We know we are in a position to absorb this delay and take it easy, ”said a CSK source.
It is understood that from now on, CSK will not ask the BCCI to postpone their matches, as long as no one else tests positive in subsequent tests. According to the convention, the finalists from the previous year, the Mumbai Indians and CSK in this case, play the first match. The Chennai franchise believes it will be fit to hit the field by then.
“As far as we know, we will play on September 19 and this is how we are mentally preparing,” added the source.
The team can’t use the gym either and the players are trying to do as much as possible inside their rooms. Support staff also stay in contact with players on Zoom calls. “The camp in Chennai helped the players regain some form. Now we just hope that no one else tests positive in the next tests, “added the source.
