OnePlus Z, or OnePlus 8 Lite, or OnePlus Nord (as we heard it in various forms) is one of the big smartphone mysteries of the year – until now, we had no idea if OnePlus was actually working on a new one. Affordable phone, or if it was just an expected rumor.
Well, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has just confirmed the big news – a new affordable smartphone from the company is coming soon. In a forum post on the topic, Lau stated “We’re bringing premium, key experiences … to a new, more affordable smartphone product line.” OnePlus Z is coming – kind of.
Lau did not go into details on the phone, so we don’t know its name (although there are some strong suggestions, which we’ll get to later), specs, or when it will come out – although Lau said it would first come to Europe and India , As well as stating that they are “looking to bring more affordable smartphones to North America in the near future.”
It is worth noting that Lau also said, in a lengthy message sent to the media, “To be clear, this is not a reactionary attempt to ‘go back to our roots’, as some have speculated.
“Our goal has always been to create leading products that provide the best user experience at a comparatively affordable price point. And since our ‘roots’ are really in creating the best. The flagship Smartphones, I see this part of my strategy as an important extension of the OnePlus value proposition. “
This suggests that the new OnePlus handset will not be a cheap phone with a super-low price tag, but simply a handset that costs less than the OnePlus 8. Like the old OnePlus handset, there is potentially more of a mid-ranger.
It is possible that many new phones will arrive, as Lau uses the term ‘product line’ and one interpretation of this may be that the device will have a ‘Pro’ version, but it may mean that newer versions will be later. in years.

As stated, we have heard several names for the upcoming affordable OnePlus phone, but we are set to rule the most recent one – it is probably not the OnePlus Nord.
We say this because at the same time OnePlus published a forum post from Pete Lau, it also launched a new Instagram account called ‘OnePlusLiteZThing’.

This is a mash-up of some of the names we may have heard (with ‘Thing’ for no apparent reason), but the Nord is missing, so it may be that it never gets into controversy.
It is possible that Nord was omitted because it is actually the name of the upcoming phone, some reverse psychology tricks have been used with OnePlus, but this does not seem possible.
Maybe this Instagram name tells us that the phone will come with ‘OnePlus Lite X’ named after ‘OnePlus Lite X’ or ‘Light Y’, maybe instead of ‘OnePlus Z’ or ‘OnePlus Lite’. ‘But this is all speculation.
It is difficult to conclude from the existence of this Instagram account, especially because at the time of writing, it has not posted anything related to smartphones, but it can change and give us more definitive evidence in one way or another.
