According to the data released by the Health Department, Delhi on Tuesday reported the highest one-day increase with nearly 4,000 fresh Kovid-19 cases recorded in the last 24 hours to carry the coronavirus virus to 66,602 in the capital. It also reported 68 new deaths in the same period, leading to 2,301 deaths after the outbreak of the disease. The city-state currently has 24,988 active coronavirus cases.
According to the Health Bulletin, the capital has crossed 4 lakh tests conducted in the city to detect Kovid-19 patients from tests conducted on 16,952 samples in the last 24 hours.
Delhi has been entrusted with a major challenge to build its medical infrastructure in view of the growing Kovid cases, with an estimate required to cross 5.5 lakh by the end of July, requiring 90,000 beds. The Health Bulletin on Tuesday provided no information about the number of currently available beds at the disposal of authorities for the treatment of coronovirus patients.
The farewell to general practice comes on a day when Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal exchanged tweets on a new facility built for temporary use as a Kovid-19 treatment center.
It all started with Kejriwal requesting Amit Shah to inspect the facility with 10,000 beds and to deploy doctors and nurses from ITBP and Army. It gave a befitting reply to Shah, who said that the decision to run the center was taken three days ago, which was attended by officials other than both Shah and Kejriwal while taking stock of Delhi’s preparations.
He also reminded the CM of Delhi that the Radha Swamy Beas Facilitation Center in South Delhi would be run by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
“Dear Kejriwal ji, this decision has been taken in our meeting three days ago and MHA has entrusted the operation of 10,000 bed COVID Care Center in Radha Swami Beas, Delhi to ITBP. The work is in full swing and a large part of the facility will be operational by June 26, ”Shah said in a tweet, which was seen as Kejriwal’s counter.
Shah also announced that preparations are being made to start a 1,000-bed hospital with 250 ICU beds in the next 100 days. He said that the facility would be managed by armed forces personnel.
An expert committee constituted earlier this month to aid the government’s efforts by Kovid-19 claimed that Delhi would need 15,000 beds by the end of June and around 42,000 by mid-July. It is also estimated that the number of positive cases in Delhi will touch the 100,000 mark by the end of June.
