Indian Railways today announced the cancellation of all tickets booked for regular trains on or before 13 April. The national transporter said that it would soon start providing refunds for those tickets. The Railway Board said, “It has been decided that all train tickets booked on or before April 14 for regular timed trains should be canceled and fully refunded.”
To prevent the spread of coronaviruses in the country, the Indian Railways suspended all passenger, mail and express trains. On 14 May, the Indian Railways canceled all old bookings of all regular trains except the ‘Ram Shramik Special Train’ by 30 June.

For trains canceled by Indian Railways:
1) For PRS counter tickets, passengers can apply for a refund within six months from the date of travel (instead of 3 days excluding travel days).
2) E-ticket will be returned automatically
If the train is not canceled, but the passenger does not want to travel, the Indian Railways will refund the full amount of the reserved tickets as a special case in view of the coronary epidemic. This will be applicable for both PRS counter generated tickets and e-tickets.
PRS Counter Ticket: Passengers can file TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) within six months from the day of journey (instead of 3 days) at the station and detailed TDR in next 60 days (instead of 10 days) to Chief Claimant Officer / CCM Can be submitted. Refund office to get refund amount. Refunds will be adjusted after verification.
E-ticket: Online cancellation and refund facility is available for e-ticket.
Passengers can also cancel a PRS counter ticket through the website of 139 or IRCTC and receive a refund at the counter within six months from the date of journey (instead of the scheduled departure of the train).
Those who have already canceled their tickets can also apply for refund of cancellation fee.
PRS Counter Ticket:
Passengers who have already canceled their wickets for the journey period from March 21, 2020, can apply for refund of the remaining amount of the canceled fee.
The application for the claim refund of the balance amount of the cancellation charge was addressed to the offices of the Chief Claimant Officers (CCO) or Chief Commercial Manager / Refund (CCM-Refund) through the post in the prescribed format in the respective zone railway head quarters by 6 pm should go. Months of the scheduled date of travel.
CRIS will provide a utility for all such tickets to be evaluated by CCO / CCM / Refund officials who think that the balance of the canceled fee can be refunded to the passengers.
E-ticket:
The refund of the remaining amount of the canceled fee will be credited to the account of the passengers from where the ticket was booked. CRIS and IRCTC will create a utility to provide back the balance of cancellation charges.
The data of the canceled train can be updated at ICMC to enable cancellation. CRIS and IRCTC can act as per the instructions given above.
Indian Railways has already refunded ₹1,885 to passengers who booked tickets during the locking period.
