AIIMS sanitation supervisor dies due to Covid-19 – delhi news

A 58-year-old sanitation supervisor at the indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), who had tested positive for the new coronavirus, has died, sources said.

He was on the fan and succumbed to the infection on Sunday around 7.30 pm. He was a permanent employee of AIIMS and was published in the premier medical institute’s outdoor patient department, he said.

“Another crown warrior sacrifices his life in service of the country,” said Dr. Srinivas Rajkumar T, the general secretary of the AIIMS Resident Doctors Association, wrote on twitter with the hashtag ‘IndiaFightsCovid19’.

“The AIIMS has lost his pride as a warrior. The virus is dangerous, highly contagious and does not forgive anyone,” she said.

Kuldeep Dhigan, the general secretary, AIIMS SC/ST Employees Welfare Association, alleged that the supervisor had developed fever and mild respiratory discomfort after that he got himself examined at AIIMS on May 16.

“As your case does not meet the criteria for testing, was not tested for Covid-19. He underwent routine blood tests, he was advised and informed about the precautions to be taken and sent back home,” he said.

Due to the sudden worsening of the symptoms, the supervisor was taken to the Emergency on 19 May Dhigan said. “He had breathing difficulties and was hospitalized. Was then tested for Covid-19 and the results came to be positive,” he said.

The sanitation supervisor is shifted to the Trauma Centre, which has been converted into a dedicated Covid-19 hospital, he said.

“All the front-line workers like us who have a high risk of exposure due to the handling of hazardous materials, biomedical waste during the process of cleaning should be tried even to the slightest suspicion,” Dhigan said.

Srinivas, said that the threshold for the test should be even lower for individuals working in high risk locations such as hospitals and those who may suffer inadvertent exposure to the virus, despite taking the appropriate precautions, such as surveillance of the staff and the staff of the police.

“We’re going to have a high-level meeting with the director tomorrow to discuss issues relating to the safety of the health workers in the institute,” he said.

Last week, a whole mess of work in the AIIMS RPC dining succumbed to Covid-19.
