Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday praised the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for the construction of a 440 meters long tunnel under the busy Work of the city of Rishikesh-Dharasu road and what was described as a “feat” in the construction of the nation during the pandemic.
The BRO successfully dug up the 440-meter-long tunnel under the Chamba of the city of Rishikesh-Dharasu road, National Road no. 94, which will provide all-weather connectivity to Chardham — Gangotri, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Badrinath.
“I congratulate all the BRO of the team for their extraordinary feat in the construction of the nation in the midst of this global pandemic… from the catastrophe that struck Kedarnath, has committed itself to all-weather connectivity to Chardham and this is an important milestone,” Road Transport, Highways Minister Gadkari said.
He said that the advancement of this tunnel is going to go a long way in facilitating the rapid circulation of traffic, reduction of congestion and the distance to the Chamba city and the facilitation of the movement of yatris in Chardham Yatra and bring economic prosperity.
He said that the last Austrian technology has been used in the construction of the Jobs tunnel. The tunnel will be to through traffic in October of 2020, almost three months before its scheduled date of completion of January 2021, ” he said.
The 6 km of road and 450 meters of the tunnel that was built at a cost of Rs 88 crore. BRO started to work on the ‘North Portal’ of the tunnel in January of 2019, but work in ‘South Portal’ could begin only after October, 2019, when the land issues of compensation and security of the houses above the tunnel will be resolved to the satisfaction of all stakeholders, with the active support of the state government.
The loss was compensated by the day and the night, work shifts, along with the use of modern technology and machines provided by Bharat Construction of Dehradun.
Below 900 km ‘Char Dham’ project at a cost of about Rs 12,000 crore, BRO is the construction of 250 km of the National Road that leads to holy shrines of Gangotri and Badrinath, Gadkari said while congratulating arjun Harpal Singh, DG of Border Roads, and his team to complete crucial projects of national importance in two years.
Gadkari said BRO has been entrusted to 251 km and consists of 17 packages, of which 10 projects of 151 km have been sanctioned.
The Minister asked the BROTHER to be ready with all the preliminary work related to the rest of the packages that they were caught as they fell in the ecologically sensitive area and a high-power report of the commission was expected, ensuring that he will be in contact with the relevant authorities to expedite the same.
He also asked the BRO to ensure the beautification drive along the road, including the planting of green species, in addition to other methods.
