While 2020 is throwing a lot of surprises, a strong, the sound is not natural the Wednesday showed that everything that is not ‘normal’ this year
It is a bomb blast? It is a jet? Did a meteor collide? Is Jaddoo from the 2003 Bollywood film, Koi… Mil Gaya?
I was going to the afternoon Stephen Hawking the response to the unusual phenomenon that took place on the afternoon of Wednesday?
Strong, with a sound like a short thunder clap was heard by residents across the city, which led to several theories floating around that it was caused due to a earthquake or a sonic boom created by a military fighter jet. Several residents of Sarjapur, HSR, Whitefield, Hebbal heard the sound around 1.20 in the afternoon. Initially, residents suspected that to be an earthquake, and took to social networks to report it. But this was rejected by the scientists from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC).
“The activity reported Bengaluru it is not due to an earthquake. The Seismometer does not capture any Ground Vibration as is usually the case during a slight tremor. The activity is purely a loud noise unknown,” said Jagadeesh, scientist, KSNDMC.
More Srinivas Reddy, Director, KSNDMC stated that the seismic activity is not confined to one area and it will be widespread. “We have proven that our sensors and there is no seismic activity was recorded today,” Reddy said.
However, Bengalureans had a field day after the incident, comes up with memes and wild theories about the alien invasion. “That sound you heard? Don’t worry, it was just #2020 belching after eating up almost half of the year” and other funny one-liners flooded Twitter. The Actor and comedian Danish Sait rushed to publish a drawing in the strong noise and created quite a few vibrations of the laughter in the social media. Adding to its series of hilarious videos of life in quarantine was a fun conversation between friends discussing about the loud sound, putting in whacky jokes that cracked up to nearly a million followers of the Sait.
On the other hand, residents are also posted on social media that the sound was caused by a sonic boom of a combat aircraft. A sonic boom is created when an airplane is flying faster than the speed of sound.
Flight testing of the activity has once again resumed after almost a gap of a month and a half. The test flight had come to a standstill for the running of the bulls and on the morning of Wednesday, the test flights were seen by outputs of the city.
Bengaluru is home to several military flight test centres such as the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), National Flight Test Centre (nftc) in addition to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
HAL said that none of their jets were involved in supersonic test. The Indian Air Force, whose ASTE is involved in a test flight, said that no aircraft they was flying in the area.
The air force’s Training Command, which is based in Bengaluru, in a statement, said that no aircraft of the Command Training flight in the area. Sources told Bangalore Mirror that a Sukhoi-30 Mki aircraft took off from the HAL airport just a couple of minutes before the loud noise was heard. However, it is not clear if this plane had broken the sound barrier that could have caused the sonic boom that results in the thundering sound.
