CHENNAI: In the midst of another peak of 743 Covid-19 positive cases in the state of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, with Chennai represent 557 new coronavirus cases, the State, the minister of Health, along with the corporation officials launched an intensive “micro-plan” to control and contain infection by the virus in 34 most affected rooms, distributed in three municipal areas in Chennai.
The Covid-19 image for the State on Wednesday was far from encouraging, as the total number of persons with positive tests for the virus in the state of Tamil Nadu to date, reached a new high of 13,191. Of the new cases during the day, 83 returnees in Maharashtra tested positive for the virus at multiple points of control.
The total number of positive cases in Chennai city alone is an amazing 8,228, even as three more deaths took the state’s death toll due to the virus 87 Wednesday. However, only one of every three deaths confirmed today – 44 years of age, women of Thiruvallur district, died of respiratory failure and viral pneumonia. Two other patients who died in Chennai government hospitals today are suffering from co-morbidities such as diabetes and heart problems.
Taking a serious view of the continuing spread of the infection in greater Chennai, the minister of Health, Dr C Vijayabaskar met with the Dean and Covid-19, the task force team in the Government Stanley Medical College hospital and assessed the current situation. “We talked about the testing protocols and comprehensive treatment plans,” he tweeted later.
Previously, Dr. Vijayabaskar, the senior nodal officer of the Chennai Corporation, Dr. J Radhakrishnan, and the Corporation Commissioner, G. Prakash, and other top experts launched intensive special micro-plan, with the name and style, ‘Namma Chennai Covid Virattum Thittam’ in Royapuram, one of the worst affected places due to the virus, which in fact represents the highest of any neighborhood in the city. The other two severely affected areas of the city are Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar and Kodambakkam.
Dr Vijayabaskar said that it will pay special attention to those most vulnerable neighborhoods of the city by one of 500 team members, including 120 sanitary inspectors. The team members are going door-to-door, screen from all over the world and test them with the help of a mobile testing lab being placed in service, which is the heart of a mini-camp to get from place to place, he said.
If someone tests positive for the virus after the initial test and the PCR test, the regular protocols of taking the isolation, quarantine and treatment in the hospital, as the case may be, Dr. Vijayabaskar said.
Each home will be given a first aid kit, including the herbal drink powder ‘Kabasura Kudineer’, zinc and multi-vitamins, she said, adding, face masks, and disinfectants will also be provided. All sections of colonies will be disinfected. This highly focused special programme for Chennai should help to stop the spread of the infection”, he added.
