The Delhi Health Department, in a letter to all district magistrates, marked especially by the fact that although coronavirus cases are increasing in the city, the number of areas of contention goes to the floor.
Tuesday, the registered capital of 500 Covid-19 cases, taking the case of counting to 10,554. The number of areas of contention has come down from 97 a couple of weeks ago to 66 on Wednesday.
In an order issued Tuesday, the Delhi, the Health Secretary, Padmini Singla asked the district magistrates to go through the list of positive cases in their areas and to create buffer zones as per the guidelines. The order was marked for the Additional Chief Secretary, the Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor and the Secretary of the prime Minister.

“In going through the data with regard to the spread of Covid-19 of infections, it is observed that every day 300-400 cases are added to the account, but the declaration equivalent of ‘containment of the areas of the district judges is not happening. The guidelines are clear to declare an area as a containment zone where three or more Covid-19 positive cases were found in close proximity”, says the order.
On May 15, The Indian Express had reported that the number of areas of contention had fallen during the last two weeks, even as the cases continued to rise.
“If the previous policy (of the declaration of areas of containment) was being followed, many more areas that have been sealed by now,” said an official.

As per the guidelines issued by the department of health, the containment of the zones were supposed to be declared based on the number of cases, their contacts, and the geographical dispersion.
The order emphasized that the “importance of the containment of the zones. is much greater, as it becomes the most important factor to decide the eligibility of the activities in a area.” It also reiterates the measures to be taken once the area has been declared a containment zone, where only the door of the delivery of the essential elements, is permitted.
“Tougher action needs to be initiated in these areas, in terms of active surveillance, testing and follow-up of contacts,” said a senior official of the department of health.
