Just over two months and a week since Karnataka reported its first new case of coronavirus, the state passed the 1,000 mark on Friday. According to the Department of Health and Family Welfare Services, 45 new cases were reported as of 5 p.m. Thursday, with a total of 1,032. Of the new cases, 20 are from expatriates who returned to the state of Dubai as part of the first phase of the Vande Bharat mission.

Up to 177 people and two babies had landed at Mangaluru Airport on May 12 at night on an Air India Express flight. According to records kept by the health department, 15 of them are in the Dakshina Kannada district, while another five are in Udupi.

“They have all been admitted to designated Covid-19 hospitals in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts,” Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Karnataka Health Commissioner told Indianexpress.com

Of the other cases confirmed on Friday, 13 are from Bangalore, four from Bidar, three from Hassan, two from Chitradurga and one case from Shivamogga and Bagalkote.

No trace of community transmission in Karnataka

There has been no community transmission in the state since the pandemic outbreak, Karnataka Minister of Medical Education Dr. K Sudhakar reiterated on Friday, adding that the state has done well to contain the coronavirus.

Comparing the state’s statistics with the national average, he said: “The average daily growth in the number of Covid-19 cases in Karnataka is 5.4 percent, while the national average is 11.8 percent.” .

He added: “There is no trace of community transmission in Karnataka. 25 percent of cases go back to national and international travel history; 7 percent of cases exhibit comorbidities. “

As of 12 pm on May 15, the state has witnessed 476 discharges and 35 deaths. The total number of active cases in the state is 520.

Mysuru District Hospital Records 100% Recovery

In a sigh of relief for Mysuru’s health officials and citizens, the department recorded a 100% recovery at Mysuru District Hospital, a dedicated Covid-19 hospital in the state.

Confirming the same, health officials said: “All 90 COVID-19 positive patients admitted to Mysore District Hospital have been discharged without any recorded deaths. Thanks for all the support “.

Throughout the month of April, Mysuru ranked second on the list of districts with the highest number of cases in Karnataka, after the capital Bengaluru.
