A taxi service between Delhi airport and Noida or Ghaziabad can cost up to Rs 12,000 for those returning from foreign countries as part of the ongoing evacuation following the coronavirus pandemic.
A recent notice from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has stated that Indian citizens landing at IGI airport will have to pay Rs 10,000 for a sedan or Rs 12,000 for an SUV to reach their homes in Noida and Ghaziabad.
Public transportation through the red zones of the national capital, as well as taxi facilities, are not available due to the continued blockade.
“According to a state government order dated May 6, the state agency will provide transportation to those who return from abroad and have their homes in UP. Both buses and taxis will be available for the trip. Passengers who do not have symptoms after the preliminary medical check-up will be able to use the service, ”reads an order dated May 9 and signed by Raj Shekar, MD UPSRTC.
According to officials, the order was issued to the Noida and Ghaziabad Transportation Department. The state transportation agency will offer a bus and two types of taxis whose charges include a base fare and a cost per kilometer.
According to the UPSRTC notification, those who wish to travel in a Maruti Ciaz sedan will have to pay Rs 10,000 for the first 250 km and Rs 40 per km if the destination is longer. An Innova SUV will cost passengers Rs 12,000 for the first 250 km and Rs 50 per kilometer above. In both cases, only two people will be allowed in the cabin and the rate will include the round trip distance between the airport and the destination.
Since both Ghaziabad and Noida are within a 50 km radius of the airport, passengers must pay a minimum of Rs 10,000 for the taxi service.
The cheapest options are also available in the form of AC / non-AC buses whose fare calculation will be based on distance. A trip within 100 km on a regular non-CA bus will be completed within 1,000 rupees and the same distance on a CA bus can cost up to 1,500 rupees, depending on seating arrangement.
If the destination is beyond 700 km, the ordinary bus will cost Rs 6,000 while the AC bus will charge up to Rs 9,450. In view of social distancing measures, each bus will transport only 26 people.
