Goa Prime Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday urged revelers and tourists not to visit the popular tourist destination for leisure travel, despite the resumption of train services because beaches and hotels are closed due to the outbreak. of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

“People, who still want to come to Goa, will be transferred to hotels that have become makeshift institutional quarantine centers. But we will make them pay for their stay in these quarantine centers, “the CM said as he addressed a press conference.

He said the state government has made arrangements for those stranded people who would return home starting Saturday. All of them would be tested and quarantined until their results are available, he added.

“We have verified with the railway authorities. About 500 people will arrive on the first train to Goa from New Delhi on Saturday since the nationwide closure restrictions were imposed on March 25. The train will depart for New Delhi on Sunday. New Delhi-Margao train will be a weekly service. A New Delhi-Thiruvananthapuram train is also scheduled to make a scheduled stop in Margao next week. We have sealed all but one of the departures at our state’s only railway station in Margao, “said Sawant.

Passengers would be transported from the Margao train station by bus to the South Goa District Hospital, where they would be screened and then quarantined at Fatorda Stadium until the test results are available, the CM said.

Those who test positive would be admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, which has been converted into a dedicated Covid-19 facility.

“Those who test negative will receive a stamp and will be asked to remain in isolation at home,” said CM.

“We are planning to double our daily testing capacity to 1,000 after the acquisition of a new machine,” he added.

It lessened concerns about the authenticity of the test results, as they would all be verified twice to minimize the error, if any.

“We will not withhold any information about Covid-19 related deaths,” he said.

The CM made the comment in the wake of growing concerns about the deaths of four people in recent weeks suspected to be due to Covid-19.

“For example, patient Margao, who died, was young. He was tested three times in Goa, and then his swab samples were sent to the Pune National Institute of Virology. That was also negative. Furthermore, his close contacts were tested, ”he added.

Goa has reported seven positive Covid-19 cases to date, and all have recovered.
