NEW DELHI: Union Interior Minister Amit Shah announced on Wednesday that all soup kitchens in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) such as CRPF and BSF will sell only indigenous products from 1 June 50 lakh relatives of approximately 10 lakh staff.
In a series of Hindi tweets, Shah said the decision was made by the Interior Ministry after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to opt for local products and be self-sufficient.
Shah also called on the people of the country to make the most of the products made in the country and encourage others to do the same.
“The Interior Ministry has decided that all the dining rooms of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will now sell only indigenous products. This will be applicable to all CAPF dining rooms throughout the country from June 1, 2020. With this 50 lakh family members of approximately 10 lakh CAPF staff will use indigenous products, “he said.

The CAPFs – CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and Assam Rifles – the soup kitchens together sell products worth Rs 2,800 crore annually.
Referring to Modi’s call on Tuesday, during his speech to the nation, to make the country self-sufficient and to use products made in India, Shah said this will surely pave the way for India to lead the world in the future.
“If every Indian agrees to use products made in India (Swadeshi), the country can become self-sufficient in five years,” he said.
