Delhi completed 50 days of confinement on Tuesday. And in these 50 days, the national capital saw the number of Covid-19 cases increase by 254 times, according to an analysis of figures from the health ministry by the Hindustan Times, a Hindustan-language publication showing Hindustan.
There were only 30 positive cases of Covid-19 in Delhi until March 24, a day before the national blockade took effect. It rose to 7,639 on May 12, Hindustan reported. This is due to an increase in numbers in May with 200 to 400 positive Covid-19 cases being recorded every day.

On Tuesday, 383 people recovered from the viral infection, bringing the number of recoveries to 2,512 so far in the city-state. This puts Delhi’s recovery rate at almost 33 percent, reflecting the national average of around 32 percent.
Along with the 13 deaths, Delhi also reported 406 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, bringing the city-state case count to 7,639. This puts the doubling rate in the city at approximately 11 days, lower than the 13 days registered at the beginning of the month.
It is not just the number of cases that have increased. The number of people in the city’s intensive care units has also more than doubled from around 50 people in late April to 111 on May 12. The number of people with respirators increased from just five on April 30 to April 20. May 12.
