New Delhi: After Riyaz Naikoo, Hizbul Mujahideen named Saifullah Mir, also known as Ghazi Haider, as the new leader of the terror team in the Valley. Naikoo, 26, a native of Malangpora in the Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir area, became radicalized and named him Ghazi Haider.
Mir, a standard 12 pass, has been on the radar of security agencies in the Valley for quite some time, as his name is listed as Dr. Saifullah aka Dr. Saif on the list of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, prepared by the Home Office (MHA) in 2017.
According to Interior Ministry records, Mir was the district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Pulwama before being elevated to the rank of SM chief after the death of his mentor Naikoo. Naikoo reportedly trained Mir for almost six years before being eliminated by security forces last week.
As reported by Times Now, security forces killed Naikoo in the Pulwama district in a meeting on May 6. Naikoo, 32, was Burhan Wani’s second-in-command. He became the head of Hizbul Mujahideen after Wani was assassinated in July 2016.
Naikoo was one of the oldest surviving terrorists since 2012. On May 5, based on technical input, the security forces launched a massive combing operation in the area. It was hidden in one of the three houses that were searched by the security forces. According to sources, the house belonged to Naiku’s relative and he was shot at the forces.
